Game Recap

For both teams this was a game to forget. The Hokies (4-2, 3-0 ACC) couldn’t do anything on offense. Virginia Tech QB Ryan Willis especially struggled. Even though he managed 221 yards and 2 touchdowns, through the air, he was missing throws all game and threw 2 interceptions. For the Tar Heels (1-4, 1-2 ACC), it was a game of mistakes. UNC had 7 red zone trips and only managed to scrap up 19 points whereas the Hokies had 2 red zone trips and scored 22 points. North Carolina couldn’t hold onto the ball either. UNC had a total of 4 fumbles, but only lost 2 of them. One of their fumbles came on a crucial drive for the Heels; UNC was on the 1 yard line about to go up by 12 on the Hokies when Tyree Rodgers forced a fumble that allowed the Hokies to go on a game winning drive.

Player of the Game

QB Ryan Willis

Although Willis struggled for most of the game, he still managed to rack up 309 total yards along with 3 total touchdowns. He also kept the Hokies game winning drive alive on a 4th and 9 1st down scramble.

Next Up

The Hokies will be headed to a much needed bye week.

North Carolina will go on the road to New York to take on Syracuse.
