Game Implications

This game could ultimately decide the Coastal. If Virginia Tech, 3-2 in the Coastal, can win their last 3 games (Pitt, Miami, UVA) then they will clinch the Coastal. Pitt simply needs to win 2 of their last 3 games to win the Coastal. After Virginia Tech, the Panthers will play Wake Forest and Miami.

Keys to Success

Virginia Tech

As the Hokies have an offense capable of scoring, their fate will lie on their defense in this one. Virginia Tech needs to stop Pitt’s rushing attack. Most of Pitt’s success comes from running the ball and the Hokies have struggled with the run in their past 2 games giving up 465 yards to Georgia Tech and 219 yards to Boston College.

Pittsburg

Along with having a strong run game, the Panthers will need to limit turnovers as well. This game will most likely be very close and one mistake could put the Panthers in a bad situation. Running the ball and controlling the clock will be big. Virginia Tech has a very explosive offense that has the potential to score every drive. Keeping them off the field will be key for Pitt.

Players to Watch

Virginia Tech: QB Ryan Willis

Ryan Willis had a great first half vs Boston College going 16/19 for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns. But the 2nd half was another story as he threw for only 63 yards, 1 touchdown and an interception. Look for Willis to bounce back this week vs a Pitt defense that ranks 88th in passing defense.

Pittsburg: RB Darrin Hall

Darrin Hall managed to rack up 229 yards and 3 touchdowns last Friday vs Virginia. The Hokies have been struggling on defense vs good rushing teams in their past 2 games. Darrin could be in store for another big game.

Score Prediction

The Hokies have dropped their past 2 games and are looking for a way to get over their drought. Be on the look out for Ryan Willis and the Hokies offense has they carry them to a close win.
