Strengths:
Arguably the smartest player in the draft. Great passer from the post.
Very good shooter from inside the arc.
Great finisher in the paint.
Gets to the line and converts at a great rate (81.9 FT% on 7FTA).
Generates Steals and Blocks at a good rate (1.1 SPG and 1.5 BPG).
Weaknesses:
Undersized for an NBA PF. Lack of length will be a problem.
Jumpshot from beyond the arc needs to improve.
Very foul prone (3.0 FPG). Lack of speed forces him to foul.
Won’t be able to beat opponents off the dribble consistently.
NBA Comparison:
Boris Diaw With More Offensive Upside
Undersized big men who use their strength and high basketball IQs to counteract their lack of length. Offensively they have respectable jumpers and are elite passers out of the post. Defensively they struggle with length and speed, but use their size and motor to make an impact.
NBA Draft Outlook:
15-25.
One of the biggest Draft Ranges I have seen. There are mocks of him going Top 10 and there are mocks of him falling to the second round. I believe he unarguably a Top 20 player in this class.
Ideal Fits:
San Antonio at 19:
Very smart, team oriented player who makes an impact in a variety of ways. Williams would fit perfectly in the Spurs organization that values his efficiency and decision making. After Aldridge and Poeltl, the Spurs have no frontcourt depth and could use a NBA ready body.
Utah at 23:
Due to Williams’s lack of length, he would thrive next to a defensive anchor like Rudy Gobert. His scoring from the high post would be a new weapon in Utah’s offense.
