The Good, Bad, and Ugly: Week 0, 2019

We all got our first taste of the 2019-2020 college football season with the pair of games on Saturday. We saw the Florida Gators slip by the Miami Hurricanes in Orlando by a score of 24-20. Also, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors were saved by a yard, as Kahlil Tate and the Arizona Wildcats could not finish their comeback. However, there are some things to discuss about this weekend of college football. Lets get into it:

The Good: Jarren Williams

It seemed that the only quarterback that seemed solid, for the most part, was Jarren Williams. He was the only starting quarterback in the pair of games that didn’t turn the ball over. Also, he passed for over 200 yards and 1 TD is his Miami debut. In my book, he did exactly what he needed to do in his opener, regardless of the outcome. And considering that his offensive line did little to none to keep him protected, he should be a stud.

It was only one game, but Jarren Williams was efficient and calm when kept free from pressure. pic.twitter.com/GFrcwsRNw1

The Bad: Officiating

Well, this first game back shows us that the CFB refs still kinda suck.
Oh well. 🤷🏽‍♀️

“Oh it was the referees fault that we lost the game”. Trust me, I have heard. And you can never take those false starts and holdings too harsh on the referees. However, when corners are just following through on their coverage and keeping with a player and it gets tagged for pass interference, it gets a bit annoying (Miami-Florida). And also, some of the Hawaii fans were having some issues with not being able to use their mainland referees, but their game was decently officiated in terms of the two watched.

The Ugly: Turnover Prone

Lady wearing the turnover chain is looking to make a turnover with Mr. Manny Diaz after the game if you know what I’m sayinghttps://t.co/o4xoD1Sk5h

13. Yes, that is more than some teams score in college football games. But that, ladies and gentlemen, is the number of turnovers shared between the two games on Saturday. Most of the ones I got the luxury to watch were completely on the mistakes of the offensive player, without much skill from the defense. This made the games somewhat hard to really enjoy at times because it wasn’t a great showing by the offenses and defenses.

And for that woman checking out Manny Diaz: if his linemen can’t work their hips for a block, not sure he will be able to work yours. Just a little tad of knowledge.
