Matisse Thybulle NBA Scouting Report and Pro Comparison
Measurements:
- Age: 22
- Height: 6’6″
- Wingspan: 7’0″
- Weight: 195 LBs
Strengths:
One of the best defensive players in CBB history. Projects as All-NBA Defender.
Generates Steals and Blocks at an absurd rate. (3.5 SPG 2.3 BPG).
Great size at 6’6″ with a 7 Foot Wingspan.
Very good FT shooter (.851%). Good sign for development as a shooter.
Great athlete.
Weaknesses:
Inconsistent shooter (.305 3PT%).
Averaged 9.1 PPG in 31.1 MPG as a Senior in the PAC 12. Not Great.
May not be a good enough rebounder to play small-ball PF.
Very limited offensively. Can only really score off cuts and wide open 3s.
NBA Comparison:
Andre Iguodala Without The Playmaking Skills
Thybulle doesn’t have the offensive polish or playmaking of Iguodala, but his defense and athleticism remind me a lot of the former All Star. Both have similar builds and are responsible for taking on the opposing team’s top perimeter players. Both players have struggled to consistently hit 3’s over the course of their careers. This will likely determine Thybulle’s ceiling.
Draft Outlook:
20-30 Range.
Ideal Fits:
Oklahoma City at 21:
OKC has a big hole at the SG spot and Thybulle offers them a potential All-NBA Defender. Andre Roberson has one more season in his contract, but he is coming off a major injury and never developed enough offensively to make a major impact. Thybulle has some passing skills and is further along as a shooter than he was at 22.
Utah at 23:
Utah Jazz have built a very good defense around Rudy Gobert, but lets make it better. The Jazz don’t have a ton of established depth at SG/SF and Thybulle could be a very nice pickup for a potential playoff team. His size would allow him to slide up to SF and play off of Donovan Mitchell.
Portland at 25:
CJ and Dame have the offense portion covered, lets beef up the defense. Thybulle could take the opposing team’s best perimeter player for stretches and generate steals for a team thats dynamic in transition. If he could develop a consistent corner 3 he could be a huge pickup for a contender.
