Tua Tagovailoa is coming off of a disappointing campaign in 2019. 2019 saw Tagovailoa come in second in both the race for the Heisman, and National championship trophies. Tagovailoa and the Alabama faithful, will be eager to put last season behind them. With the start of the new season right around the corner, they will have plenty of chances to redeem themselves. However, the majority of the bookmakers don’t believe that it will be Tua Tagovailoa lifting the Heisman trophy in 2019.
Last Year
Tua Tagovailoa came second in the race for the Heisman trophy last year to Kyler Murray. The Oklahoma quarterback would enter the playoffs facing his fellow finalist. Finishing second must have added to the rage that Tua and the Crimson Tide used to beat Oklahoma in the semi finals. Unfortunately, Clemson and Trevor Lawrence won the championship and put an end to Alabama’s season in the final. The result came as a surprise because Alabama were considered to be huge favorites in the game.
What Are The Deciding Factors for Tagovailoa This Season?
Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins have both gone to the NFL, but Tagovailoa has an even stronger opponent this year. Tagovailoa’s competition this year will be Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence is entering his sophomore season. For Tagovailoa’s, his health coming back from injury will be a huge factor in the Heisman race. As of today, Vegas is suggesting Lawrence is the favorite with almost double the odds of Tua Tagovailoa. Nick Saban won’t mind his quarterback being underestimated. The Crimson Tide will support their quarterback all season long!
After 2020
After the 2020 season ends, Tua Tagovailoa will most likely declare for the NFL draft. Tagovailoa is the favorite, as of right now, to be picked number one in next year’s draft. The past two Heisman award winners have been selected number one overall and Tagovailoa could be the third. There are plenty of obstacles in the Crimson Tide quarterback’s path to glory, but he has enough talent to overcome them all!
