Missouri Tigers get Blanked, Drop to 5-4 After Losing 3rd Straight
This past Saturday, the Missouri Tigers rolled into Athens Georgia, looking to make some noise by knocking off the heavily favored Georgia Bulldogs. They left with a 27-0 loss after their worst offensive game of the season.
The Tigers were without star quarterback Kelly Bryant, and backup Taylor Powell was unable to get anything going. He even played so poorly that he was replaced by third-stringer Connor Bazelak who finished out the game. Powell was 10-22 passing, with 84 yards and an interception. Bazelak finished off the game going 8-12 for 64 yards.
Star veteran running back Larry Rountree III had a game to forget going against the stout Georgia defense. He only rushed for 24 yards on nine carries, with an 8 yard rush being his longest of the night.
On the flip side, the Bulldogs were able to wear the Tiger defense down with a potent running game as D’Andre Swift rushed for 83 yards on 12 carries while Brian Herrien added 42 yards on 10 carries.
Bulldog quarterback Jake Fromm had an iffy night as he only went 13-29 on passing for 173 yards, but he threw the only two touchdowns that were scored in the entire game.
The Tiger defense was able to somewhat hold its own as they forced 4 field goals, but it was all for not as the offense wasn’t able to do anything. Georgia kicker Rodrigo Blankenship was 4-5 on field goals with 48 yard kick being his longest make of the night.
These two teams are trending in complete opposite directions as the Bulldogs have regained their footing, winning their third straight after their rough loss to South Carolina, while the Tigers have now lost their third straight game after starting out 5-1.
Georgia still has a path to playoffs if they are able to win out and capture and SEC championship, while Mizzou needs to beat one of Florida, Tennessee, or Arkansas to become bowl eligible.
